Cricket Bats
Tape-ball and hard-ball cricket bats in senior and junior sizes, chosen for balance and pick-up.
Buying cricket bats
- Tape ball: lighter (roughly 1,000–1,150 g), thinner blade, made for taped tennis balls; do not use with leather balls.
- Hard ball: English willow offers the best performance; Kashmir willow is tougher and more affordable. Hard-ball bats need knocking-in before use.
- Size: Short Handle suits most adults; Long Handle for taller players; Harrow and sizes 1–6 for juniors.
- Weight: lighter bats are quicker to swing; heavier bats carry more power but tire the wrists.
Questions about Cricket Bats
Which bat size is right for me?
Most adults use Short Handle (SH). Players over about 6 ft 2 in may prefer Long Handle; juniors should use Harrow or a numbered size by height.
Can I use a tape-ball bat with a hard ball?
No. Tape-ball bats are not built for leather balls and can crack.
Does a hard-ball bat need knocking-in?
Yes. Knock in a new willow bat with a bat mallet for several hours before using it with a hard ball.
