Winter Badminton Season Is Here: Court Tips and Gear Checklist for 2026
· 1 min read · By the Xplore team
As the evenings cool down, community halls, school courts and backyard nets fill up again. Winter is when most Pakistani players pick their rackets back up, so this is the best time to check your kit before the first game.
Your winter badminton checklist
- Racket: check the frame for cracks near the throat and head.
- Strings: if they look frayed or feel dead, restring before the season starts.
- Grip: a slippery grip ruins control. Replace it or add an overgrip.
- Shuttlecocks: keep a full tube; feathers and nylon both wear faster in cold, dry air.
- Shoes: non-marking court shoes protect your ankles and the court floor.
Pick the right shuttlecock speed for cold weather
Shuttlecocks fly slower in cold air and faster in warm air. In winter, a faster speed shuttle helps it travel a normal distance. Nylon shuttles are more durable for casual and outdoor play; feather shuttles give better flight for club and indoor games. Browse shuttlecocks.
Is your racket still right for you?
If you are coming back after a long break, a lighter racket is easier on the shoulder. Our badminton racket buying guide explains 3U vs 4U, balance and grip size in plain terms. See all badminton rackets.
Warm up before the first smash
Cold muscles are the biggest cause of early-season injuries. Spend 8–10 minutes on:
- light jogging or skipping
- arm circles and shoulder rotations
- lunges and side shuffles
- a few minutes of gentle rallying before playing points
Playing outdoors?
Wind changes everything outdoors. Play early morning or evening when it is calmer, use durable nylon shuttles, and keep a spare tube handy.

Frequently asked
Which shuttlecock speed is best for winter?
A faster-speed shuttle, because shuttlecocks fly slower in cold air. In warm weather switch back to a slower speed.
How often should I restring my badminton racket?
Casual players should restring at least once a season, or as soon as strings fray or lose tension. Regular club players often restring every few months.
Nylon or feather shuttlecocks for beginners?
Nylon. They last much longer and suit casual and outdoor play. Feather shuttles are better for indoor club games.
